APHYTIS MELINUS
(Parasite)

Latin name: Aphytis melinus

Tiny (1mm.) golden chalcid wasp that lays eggs underneath scale. Wasps parasitize the armoured or hard scales (scale that does not produce honeydew) such as, California citrus scales, oleander scales, San Jose scales, ivy scales Spanish red scale (Dyctyospermum scale) and yellow scales. The larvae feed and pupate inside the scale. Adult wasps do some scale feeding.




SHIPPED: Adults in plastic cup.




OPTIMUM CONDITIONS: 15-29C (60-85F) 50% or greater humidity.

RELEASE RATE: 1-2 Aphytis per 1 m. sq. (10 ft. sq.); 5-10 Aphytis per plant released weekly for 3 releases.

SPECIAL NOTES: Parasitizes scales that do not produce honeydew, will establish a population.
